Not That Kind Of Girl

To the woman at Ann Taylor: Obviously, subtlety is not your strong suit. Did you think that I would not notice when you stopped in front of me and studied me, in slow motion, from my hair to my shoes? Did you think that I would not see your pursed lips and read the expression on your face? Did you question my class or my gender? Did you see me as queer? You saw my Levi's, t-shirt and men's shoes and thought you knew something about me. Well, you don't know a thing about me. I am more than my appearance and more than the words that describe me. You can't know me but one thing is certain - I would never look at another person with the same disdain with which you looked at me.

We are both women but you are right...I am not like you.
