Fish Tales

Once upon a time, we went to see the World's Largest Freshwater Fiberglass Fish, a muskie located in Wisconsin. Reviews by my kids and our friends' kids with whom we were traveling were mixed. Sometimes a picture really is worth a thousand words.

The experience reminded me how much I love the absurd things in life, including random roadside attractions. I have since downloaded the Roadside America app on my phone so that we can take little detours to see bizarre things when we are driving places.

Recently, we drove up to our friends' cabin, which we've done hundreds of times over the years but we never knew that there was a large fish statue right off the highway on the way! I found it in my app and we had to stop.

I pride myself on my ability to get good pictures with oddities and had no doubt that I would be able to scale the giant walleye. Things didn't go as planned.

Did you know that there are over 70 fish statues in the state of Minnesota alone? There are and before the election last year, I wanted to travel to each one and write a story about it and even considered starting a podcast. But when it became clear that there were going to be other battles to fight, I gave up on the idea.

But maybe the word does need more fish tales. I heard it right from the fish's mouth.
