Take a Shot At It

50s.jpgWhy do people put fake bullet hole decals all over their cars. What is the point? Is it to deter someone from stealing your car? The owner of the car believes that any thief approaching their car will think say, "Damn, I was going to take that car but it has been damaged by gunfire!" Is it to look cool? I am not attracted to bullet-ridden vehicles but maybe there is a whole bullet-ridden car fetish group out there. Is it supposed to be funny? The owner says to an unsuspecting person "Oh my god people! Look at my car - it was caught in cross-fire!" and then laughs uproariously. Is is supposed to give street cred? I don't get it. I have visited some of the sites that sell the decals and all of them claim that the decals look like real bullet holes. I hate to ruin whatever marketing magic they have going on but, um, no they don't. They look like cheap stickers. How do I know this? Because I have never once passed one of these cars in my neighborhood and thought anything other than, "Why do they put those stickers on their car?" Someone must be able to help me solve this mystery. I am turning to you...
