Bad News Bears 2007

The Bad News Bears is being remade yet again. There will be a few changes this time around. The team in question will be a soccer team for 5 and 6 year olds and the action will take place at Sibley Park in South Minneapolis. The studio producing the film went out on a limb and cast Luisa as the coach, a role that Walter Matthau made famous. Luisa plans to play the coach as a lesbian, Diet Coke swilling epidemiologist rather than the original "lazy, beer swilling swimming pool cleaner". Critics are already arguing that she is not going to be acting but playing herself, a complaint that has been common throughout her acting career. The consummate professional and method actor, Luisa has already risen above such criticism and is actively preparing for her role by drinking pop and practicing lesbianism. I will be playing the mild-mannered mother of one of the players. My character believes in cooperative play rather than competition and struggles with her 6 year old son who plays for the Bears. Her son is described in the script as "an overly competitive boy and a great athlete whose tragic flaw is his confidence that he is the best player on the field". In a casting stretch, the boy will be played by our own Miguel. I hate to give too much away but Miguel and I will have some great scenes together as the characters' personalities clash on the sidelines. Miguel's character will have a good friend, played by Augie Wifler, who suffers from an overly inflated ego as well. You may remember Augie Wifler from his starring role as a giant plush shark in the big screen hit, "Fuzzy Sharks Take Minneapolis". The studio was excited to announce that the remaining team members are to be played by local 5 and 6 year olds who signed up to play soccer with the Minneapolis Park Board. I have seen rehearsals and they are a rag tag group indeed. Filming starts tomorrow - I'll keep you posted...
